IMPLEMENT A NEW PAYMENT SYSTEM

Customer type: A global Tier 1 bank

Challenge: Implement a new standard software package to cover the different SEPA payments schemes into the very large, complex application landscape of a global TOP 20 bank.

Approach:

• Start small and learn: start with a new scheme, without legacy
• Build a real partnership between the supplier and the bank: supplier needs to have “skin in the game”, but need to know he is in for the long term: supplier knows before the start of the project that he will also have a role in the run phase, that he will have to clean up any project leftovers during the run at no or marginal cost
• Split the operational project management from the financials: have the delivery teams only working on solutions and have a finance person from the supplier and one from the bank come up with solutions for financial issues

Result:

• A multi year, multi million dollar program using multi site delivery teams delivering predictable, good quality results
• A lot of unforeseen external change put additional pressure on the program, but the trusted relationship between the bank and the supplier on all levels found overcame all these roadblocks
